The Rift of Beginnings is not a reset button. It is the end of your run. Step inside and you get a small area with a well, a merchant and an altar, followed by the base route’s final fight against Primus, the First Dreamer. The other portal keeps the run alive and sends you deeper for another loop. Choose it if your build is not finished yet.

What each branch actually costs

When the choice returnsNot this runCommunity records say roughly five levels later, about 40 to 60 minutes

The delay is the part people underestimate. Skipping the Rift is not “I’ll come back in a minute”; it commits you to a long stretch of play before the same decision appears again.

The final fight, and where it hurts

Community records describe Primus as a multi-phase fight that heals to full at each transition. The reported danger point is a phase where meteor-like explosions cover the arena with small gaps. Players who beat it consistently describe two habits:

  • Move to the outer edge of the blast and slip through the gaps between fireballs.
  • Save the dodge roll for the moments when no gap exists, because the roll cooldown is longer than the explosion rhythm.

Phase counts reported by different players do not match, so treat “multi-phase with full heals” as the reliable part.

Decide in ten seconds with three questions

  1. Is your core Memory maxed? If you are still holding Dream Dust for a level you have not bought, you are not finished.
  2. Do you have a defensive source? A shield or heal that fires without you thinking about it. If the answer is no, the boss will find that out.
  3. Are the current enemies starting to delete you? If ordinary rooms are already dangerous, another loop makes that worse rather than better.

Three yes answers means take the Rift. Two or fewer means take the other portal and keep building.

Why this choice confuses so many players

The name says “beginnings” and the menu gives no explanation, so the natural reading is that it restarts something. In practice it is the opposite: it is the only way to cash the run in. Once you know that, the node stops being a trap and becomes a progress checkpoint.
